Belfast’s own Carl Frampton is following in the footsteps of so many U.K. greats, and taking his show across the pond when he makes his U.S. and Premier Boxing Champions debut July 18 against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas, in a bout airing on CBS at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.

Carl Frampton (20-0, 14 KOs) brings a perfect record with him from Northern Ireland, and he’ll put it on the line in hostile territory. The Texas border town is a stone’s throw from Gonzalez’s (25-1-2, 15 KOs) native Mexico.
Frampton, 28, is coming off a fifth-round stoppage of Chris Avalos in February, and is considered one of the top fighters at 122 pounds. He won a world title in September by earning a unanimous decision over Kiko Martinez in Belfast.
“It’s an honor to be making my U.S. debut on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS,” Frampton said. “I’ve accomplished a lot in my career and I’m looking forward to even more success starting July 18.”
Gonzalez, 22, is the son of former 126-pound world champion Alejandro Gonzalez. He has fought just once before in the United States, gaining a first-round knockout of Leopoldo Gonzalez in El Paso in June 2012.
In his last fight in December, Gonzalez won an eight-round unanimous decision over Gonzalo Garcia in Pesqueria, Nuevo León, Mexico.
Also on the card: Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since winning a unanimous decision over Curtis Harper on March 13.
