Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy is ready to detonate once again when he meets fellow former world champion Antonio DeMarco at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on June 21.
The bout will mark the Premier Boxing Champions debut for both fighters, and will air on CBS at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
“I’m excited for this big opportunity and I can’t wait to show the world what I’m capable of,” Barthelemy said. “A big fight like this is what I want. I know it will be very difficult, but I’m going to train hard to put on a show for the fans.”
Undefeated following a stellar amateur career in his native Cuba, Rances Barthelemy (22-0, 13 KOs) continues to build upon the rich boxing legacy of his homeland with his blend of speed and ring savvy. He won a 130-pound world championship in July by earning a unanimous decision over Argenis Mendez in Miami, but vacated his title in February to move up to 135 pounds.
In Mexico’s DeMarco (31-4-1, 23 KOs), he faces a tough, battle-tested veteran who’s earned action-packed wins over the likes of John Molina Jr. and Jorge Linares.
“This is a huge fight for me. I’m going to leave everything I have in that ring,” DeMarco said. “The chance to fight on network television is once in a lifetime and I’m going to make the most of it.”
Also on the televised portion of the card, scintillating 147-pound prospect Sammy Vasquez Jr. (18-0, 13 KOs) puts his unblemished record on the line against Nigerian knockout artist Wale Omotoso (25-1, 21 KOs).
Vasquez served two tours in Iraq as a member of the National Guard before turning pro in 2012, winning gold at the 2010 and 2011 Armed Forces Boxing Championships.
Now, he takes on the brick-fisted Omotoso, who’s earned eight of his last 10 wins by way of knockout.
