Robert Guerrero made no bones about it at Friday’s weigh-in. He simply declared he would “dish out a beating” to Aron Martinez at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Neither boxer had trouble making weight for their 147-pound bout, as Robert Guerrero (32-3-1, 18 KOs) stepped on the scale at 145.6 and Aron Martinez (19-3-1, 4 KOs) weighed 146.6 for Saturday’s fight, which will air live on NBC at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT.
“He looked good. He looked like he’s ready,” Guerrero said of his opponent. “Looking at him in his eyes, he appeared to be very focused, so I think that it’s going to be a good fight.”
Guerrero, a native of Gilroy, California, said he was excited to be fighting in the Golden State against Martinez, a Mexican native who now lives in East Los Angeles. Guerrero has fought once before at the StubHub Center, having defeated Yoshihiro Kamegai by unanimous decision there last June.
“It’s going to be a California war, baby,” Guerrero said. “It’s going to be good fight with two California guys going at it. I’m ready to go and I can’t wait until tomorrow.”
Guerrero, a two-division champion who won his first world title at 126 pounds in 2006, will be fighting for the sixth straight time at 147.
“This is definitely normal for me, being at 146 or 147,” said Guerrero, who is 4-2 in the division with losses to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Keith Thurman. “It’s become very easy for me to make. But I always say that I’m a little guy fighting in a bigger weight class.”
Southpaws Jesus Cuellar (26-1, 20 KOs) and Vic Darchinyan (40-7, 29 KOs) weighed 125.8 and 125.4, respectively, for their 126-pound fight, while hammer-fisted heavyweights Dominic Breazeale (14-0, 13 KOs) and Yasmany Consuegra (17-0, 14 KOs) came in respectively at 260.5 and 231.
