Sakio Bika still hasn’t been stopped.
The Cameroon native fought a determined match against Adonis Stevenson on Saturday in Quebec City on Premier Boxing Champions’ CBS debut. He was down, but never out. Still, he came up short on all three judges’ cards in his first fight at 175 pounds.
"Adonis deserved to win this fight. I can't take anything away from him. He fought very well,” Bika said. "Fighting on CBS has been an amazing highlight for my career. I didn't get the win, but I put on a great fight for the public to see.”
Sakio Bika (32-7-3, 21 KOs) went down twice, in the sixth and ninth rounds. A slip in the fifth caused him to hit the canvas, and he became entangled with Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs). But even in defeat to a world champion with a high knockout rate, Bika went the distance, having never been stopped in 42 career bouts.
Stevenson landed some heavy blows, but the tenacious Bika kept pressing on, laughing off any damage before launching a concerted offensive in the late rounds during which he connected on several big rights.
“When he caught me with the left and I went down later on, it didn't really affect me that much actually,” Bika said. “He's the champ though and he fought a great fight today.”
Bika, 35, has now went three straight fights without a win, having lost his 168-pound world title to Anthony Dirrell in August after a draw with Dirrell in December 2013. He'll now take some time off before preparing for his next tough battle.
"For now, I'll head back home and enjoy my family,” he said. “Then I'll see about another fight."
