Deontay Wilder is halfway there already. Familiarity with the squared circle. A sense of theatrics that includes a masked ring walk. A trash-talking opponent invading the scene of his most recent victory.
So yeah, maybe it’s not entirely surprising that heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder wouldn’t rule out a WrestleMania turn when he was asked about it backstage at this week's taping of WWE's Monday Night Raw in Birmingham, Alabama.
Hey, if taking a turn with wrestlers was good enough for Muhammad Ali, it’s good enough for Wilder. He wouldn’t be the first PBC fighter to work with wrestlers either—Robert Guerrero has trained with Seth Rollins in the past.
Still, as outgoing and charismatic as Wilder is, he may need to add a little something to his repertoire other than a big right hand if he’s going to take on the likes of the 7-foot-tall, 450-pound Big Show. Here are some possible finishing moves for Wilder if he makes it to Dallas for WrestleMania 32 on April 3:
The People’s Champion: The Rock had The People’s Elbow. Just watch the athletic Wilder drop the same kind of thunder.
The Bronze Bomber: Hulk Hogan could do some damage with his flurry of punches. Imagine what Wilder could do with the 1-2—with no assist from Buster Douglas needed.
The Alabama Slammer: Wilder said he was an Undertaker fan who did some home wrestling of his own. Time to bring it full circle with a classic choke-slam.
Snuka’s Revenge: When in doubt, start flinging coconuts.
